Hello World... From Byond!

Sep 7, 2023
Before I get right to it, I just wanted to announce that I proably be closing my original blog that I had running for almost a decade at https://djknitex.wordpress.com. It’s seen better days and now that I’m more focused on my professional career than my non-existent esports and music career. I might as well pivot over here. Needless to say, I will continue blogging but I will be more active on this one.

The Start of September

Sep 1, 2023
It’s August 31st. The end of August and I have to say that I have relearned a lot of stuff in terms of programming but I’m happy to pick up where I left off. I have decided to enroll into Calbright College since it’s free for students in California for their Cyber Security program where we can learn and obtain CompTIA Security+ Certificate, which is an industry standard. My goal with this program is to add this to my portfolio and level up in my career.

Byond Programming!

Aug 30, 2023
So I began learning how to program DM, Dream Maker (The Language Byond uses) and its been very fun. I have seen this a very long time ago and wasn’t very appealing at the time haha. Byond stands for Build Your Own Net Dream and that’s what I’m going to do. I began going through some documentation and watching a few videos to get a hang of things and I think I’ll be comfortable enough with it by the end of the year to publish something.

End of the Month

Aug 28, 2023
I am currently taking a work vacation in LA from the Bay and decided to work on my personal projects in the mean time. Since I was young I always wanted to build a game in VB6 since at the time every body was coding and making games using VB (and similar languages) at least for the games I was following. During the weekend I decided to look at Byond because that was one of the few instances where I stumbled upon code (especially source code).

Python3

Aug 18, 2023
Back with another blog post. Right now, I am currently learning Django with a course I bought from Udemy. I figured since Evennia has their webapp side of things built with Django, I might as well learn how Django works if I wanted to make changes to the website. This is also an excuse to learn more Python in depth rather than just working on the mud with it so yeah.

Summer Jams

Aug 2, 2023
I got out and dusted off a spare Macbook Pro I had which I am now using to get back into djing and doing gigs. I also brought it out so I can work on my projects on a better environment. I actually would have used Ubuntu but I needed a system where I can do both djing and programming on the side. Not much news here but with the MUD being built with Evennia, I decided that my first web rpg is going to be done in Django so my python knowledge will overlap.

New Year, New Me

Feb 16, 2023
I’m back at it again and hopefully I’ll be more active. At least once a month! Anyways a quick update going into this new year is that I’m finally up in Silicon Valley. I’ve always wanted to live here for the longest time and it feels so surreal haha. Maybe I’ll start vlogging again. I’m currently liking my new job and I have taken the time to re-learn Go (the game) and picking up backgammon.

Multiplayer Game Jam 2022

Jul 28, 2022
Nothing too huge but I’m putting together a team with some of the folks over at mockinbird.dev to compete in our next Game Jam this fall! https://itch.io/jam/back-to-school-multiplayer-game-jam-2022 Some of our teammates have experience with Unity but not with Photon so this will be interesting. I’ll most likely be taking over creative design and initial code as I am also learning C#/Unity on the side with BASIC/ASM6502. So far so good.

Some tech news!

Jul 20, 2022
I just started a new role and getting my foot wet in the Cyber Security world! I’ll be auditing code making sure there are up to date and nothing is wrong (Hopefully no body sticking in hidden crypto miners in their code) I’m currently still onboarding/training but the company sounds really good to work with so I’m hoping to learn more in the mean time. I started learning Assembly and C64 Basic again so I’m hoping to punch out some cool homebrew with some real hardware soon!

New Game Jam submission and future Python learning

Apr 5, 2022
Our first game under the mockinbird.dev has been released for NaNoRenO 2022! Link here: https://djknitex.itch.io/echoes-that-sing. Aside from that, I know it’s going to be a small post but I started re- learning Python as well as SQL to be able to get on track to become a Junior Data Scientist at my current company. So I’m on the grind and will report back with other Python related things I will be doing (Or web dev!
